Keep cool and knit on

Hello Fiberlovers!

Oh my, with all this heavy heat around us, we who live in the mountains are so fortunate; it’s certainly not cool, but not too warm to knit. Take up small projects that do not drape your lap and legs in wool. I put my big, wool projects aside for cooler weather and am knitting socks…small and cool knitting. Our hand-dyed sock yarns are currently our best sellers in the store.

Thank you to our July customers who are entered in the drawing for the basket of yarn. The winner will be called on Aug 1st. August is going to be a three-week month for us, as the store will be closed from Aug 22 til Aug 30.

We are so grateful for the enthusiastic response we are receiving from our regular customers, as well as the Summer tourists, for our hand-dyed yarns. We have gone from dyeing one day every other week, to dyeing an average of three days weekly. Our hand-dyed yarns are also out selling our distributor yarns, which we find to be quite amazing. We are also doing quite a bit of dyeing for individual customers, which allows them the benefit of knitting yarns in colors they need for a specific project. Our hand-dyed yarns are also being used in conjunction with solid colors of distributor yarns. It has opened up a whole new opportunity for color design. Come and check them out for yourself – you will be pleasantly surprised!

The yarns I’m currently dyeing are:

Superfine Alpaca Lace weight
Mohair/wool/nylon boucle
Superfine organic merino wool
Silk/merino 50-50 blend
Super wash Merino
Baby alpaca/silk blend
Cashmere blends
and Local yarns from Madison County

…with more to come. We also offer any of our yarns that are awaiting dyeing, if you’d like some in natural white. Want to knit a special sweater with a special color? We will dye the yarn to the color that fits your needs.

June 2011

Hello Fiberlovers!

Isn’t it lovely to have some warm weather, although it’s windy and chilly at the typing of this newsletter – such are the vagaries of Spring, don’t know from one day to the next how to dress. At least there’s no season in which you cannot knit; the colors of Spring changing from one week to the next give me so many ideas about how to dye the next skein of yarn.

SPRING SALE! For the month of June, we are offering a special sale for our special customers. We are expanding our 20% off items to include many yarns not normally on sale…the only catch … you must mention you saw this offer in this newsletter.

If you have not, as yet, finger-walked your way through our newly-dyed fibers, you should really treat yourself to the experience. I’m trying to swatch all the yarns, but am dyeing too fast to swatch as I go. Today we dyed 11 more skeins of sock yarn; tomorrow they will hang inside and get tagged; when completely dry, they will be on the shelf for sale. If you love to knit socks with hand-dyed yarns, you’ll love the look and feel of these.

The yarns I’m currently dyeing are:

Superfine Alpaca Lace weight
Mohair/wool/nylon boucle
Superfine organic merino wool
Silk/merino 50-50 blend
Super wash Merino
Round 100% silk chenille
Baby alpaca/silk blend
Cashmere blends
and Local yarns from Madison County

…with more to come. We also offer any of our yarns that are awaiting dyeing, if you’d like some in natural white. Want to knit a special sweater with a special color? We will dye the yarn to the color that fits your needs.

Gorgeous Spring

Hello Fiberlovers!

What a gorgeous Spring we are having. I must have 85 greens just outside my window. It makes my head fill with colors of all hues.

Our next order of yarns to dye arrived and we have really been busy. The weather has warmed and we can now go out on the deck and do some vat dyeing. What fun! I love it every bit as much as dyeing silk. It’s all about the fibers and how they accept the dyes. It captures my imagination.

To introduce our new hand-dyed yarns to you, our special customers, we are offering 10% off for ANY of our hand-dyed yarns for the month of May…the only catch … you must mention you saw this offer in your newsletter.

The yarns I’m working with are:

Superfine Alpaca Lace weight
Mohair/wool/nylon boucle
Superfine organic merino wool
Silk/merino 50-50 blend
Super wash Merino
Round 100% silk chenille
Baby alpaca/silk blend
Cashmere blends
