Hello Fiberlovers!

Oh my! How quickly the days, weeks, and  months fly by. I feel as though I have been away for the past year and am running as fast as I can to catch up. We’ve been dyeing lots and lots of yarn, I’m dyeing silk scarves, and I am learning a new dyeing technique for silk painting. What fun! Come see the new silks I have hanging; beautiful Summer colors!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at John C. Campbell and had a marvelous class. Everyone produced amazing silks and we had such fun doing it.

SALE FOR MAY: This month we are having a GIVE AWAY! For every purchase over $50, you may chose one yarn from the sale room – for FREE! It can’t get better than that, can it? Our hand dyed yarns are fully stocked as we have been dyeing for two weeks. Come and enjoy all the gorgeous colors.

Spring has sprung!

Hello Fiberlovers!

Spring has certainly ‘sprung’; the colors, it’s all about the colors for me. The azaleas were outstanding, although they didn’t last very long. I can hardly wait for the Summer flowers to give me even more inspiration for dyeing.

March Sale—select yarns 30% off

Hello Fiberlovers!

Wow, isn’t it nice to have a Florida Winter in the mountains of North Carolina! This is the warmest Winter I’ve had in the 22 years that I’ve lived here, but I’m not complaining, although I do love a snowy day to curl up and just knit.

SALE FOR MARCH: we have put more yarns in the 30% off baskets for the month, but you must mention receiving our newsletter in order to take advantage of this sale.

Our shop is the place to find the new mesh yarns…we now have Marina, Flora, Flamenco, Poppy, and Bodega…come see the different ways we have used these interesting woven yarns.

Our new line of yarns-to-dye turned out to exceed our expectations. The dyes are gorgeous and bright. I just finished a scarf using the sock weight, double knitted, and trimmed in Flamenco for ruffling. What fun! We have a very wide variety of yarns that we dye, if you have not had an opportunity to see, feel, or use our hand-dyed darlings, come see what we are producing.

Other items that we make are our lovely silk scarves, many sizes and techniques, (check out the arashi shibori accordian-pleated scarves), and our fun and extremely comfortable t-shirts, dyed in the traditional Japanese shibori technique. Each one is an individual work of art.

The yarns I’m currently dyeing are:

Superfine Alpaca Lace weight
Mohair/wool/nylon boucle
Superfine organic merino wool
Silk/merino 50-50 blend
Superwash Merino, worsted, sport, and bulky Baby alpaca/silk blend – super soft Kid Mohair Cashmere blends Superwash merino chunky (NEW) and Local yarns from Madison County

…with more to come. We also offer any of our yarns that are awaiting dyeing, if you’d like some in natural white. Want to knit a special sweater with a special color? We will dye the yarn to the color that fits your needs…have something you’d like dyed, bring it in.

UPCOMING CLASSES:

SILK DYEING: We will band and dye silk scarves (Shibori) on Friday, March 30 from 1 to 3.  Silks will lay for a few days and will be steam set the following week. Your finished scarves can be picked up the following Friday, April 6. The fee of $85 per person must be paid at the time of registration, and includes two long scarves, one square neck scarf, and all dyes, as well as steaming. More silk will be available to purchase as desired. Space is limited so early registration is a good idea.

YARN DYEING: Come have some fun dyeing your next project Monday, March 5 from 10 to 1. Yarns to be used must be purchased from Yarns To Dye For; we have a broad variety of reasonably priced yarns to choose from, already put up in skeins, ready to dye. SALE FOR JANUARY: 30% OFF ALL YARNS THAT ARE IN BASKETS!

Hello Fiberlovers!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and join us in welcoming in the New Year with high hopes for peace and love, or as John Lennon wrote “we hope it’s a good one, without any fear”.

Thank you for taking advantage of our December sale…it’s the biggest of the year for us, and we appreciate all who came and saved money while adding to their yarn stash. We plan to have something special each month, but it will only be offered to our newsletter customers, so be sure and tell us you receive our newsletter in order to cash in on the current sale.

SALE FOR JANUARY: 30% OFF ALL YARNS THAT ARE IN BASKETS!

For those of you who fell in love with the discontinued Universal Yarns – Marina, the ruffled scarves made with the open woven bands, we have ordered two types of yarns that are similar, and they are scheduled to be delivered the first week of January. I’m excited to see and knit these yarns, as are many of our customers.

We are excited to be receiving a new line of yarns-to-dye. We will have four new yarns to begin with – to test the dyeing process – and assuming they are as wonderful as we expect they will be, we will then expand the line.

At last…some cool air! How marvelous. I’ve even seen some Fall colors along the roadways, and soon to be in our yarns. We just received some more yarn to dye. We are now dyeing “Late Summer colors”… still bright and colorful, but with some slightly deeper tones.

I know this letter says ‘Sept’ but we will be having a TWO DAY SALE Aug 30 and 31…ALL YARN – except our hand-dyed yarns, will be on sale for 30% OFF. Come help us empty some shelves for new yarns coming in, and get a REALLY GOOD DEAL for your knitting needs. This is just a TWO-DAY SALE!

Have you seen the scarves made with the open woven bands that are knitted on the edge? We just received Universal Yarns Marina. You can check this yarn out on their website, linked below … it’s a Rossetti yarn. They also have a video to show how it is knitted….really cool!

We have just finished dyeing another batch of our shibori shirts, the beautiful t-shirts that are discharged blacks with lots of color added. We have ALL SIZES, including a 2XL and 3XL. Everyone seems to love these shirts and men seem to like them as much as women do.

Hello Fiberlovers!

Oh my, with all this heavy heat around us, we who live in the mountains are so fortunate; it’s certainly not cool, but not too warm to knit. Take up small projects that do not drape your lap and legs in wool. I put my big, wool projects aside for cooler weather and am knitting socks…small and cool knitting. Our hand-dyed sock yarns are currently our best sellers in the store.

Thank you to our July customers who are entered in the drawing for the basket of yarn. The winner will be called on Aug 1st. August is going to be a three-week month for us, as the store will be closed from Aug 22 til Aug 30.

We are so grateful for the enthusiastic response we are receiving from our regular customers, as well as the Summer tourists, for our hand-dyed yarns. We have gone from dyeing one day every other week, to dyeing an average of three days weekly. Our hand-dyed yarns are also out selling our distributor yarns, which we find to be quite amazing. We are also doing quite a bit of dyeing for individual customers, which allows them the benefit of knitting yarns in colors they need for a specific project. Our hand-dyed yarns are also being used in conjunction with solid colors of distributor yarns. It has opened up a whole new opportunity for color design. Come and check them out for yourself – you will be pleasantly surprised!

The yarns I’m currently dyeing are:
Superfine Alpaca Lace weight
Mohair/wool/nylon boucle
Superfine organic merino woo
Silk/merino 50-50 blend
Super wash Merino
Baby alpaca/silk blend
Cashmere blends
and Local yarns from Madison County

…with more to come. We also offer any of our yarns that are awaiting dyeing, if you’d like some in natural white. Want to knit a special sweater with a special color? We will dye the yarn to the color that fits your needs.
